From a modest beginning to one of Queensland’s largest growers of speciality flowering plants.
In 1999, Andrew & Sharon Cooper started out with just two 6 x 30 greenhouses on their Buderim property and grew Gerberas and Chrysanthemums. Before long, they decided to purchase 11 acres in the Hinterland near Mapleton because the environment was perfectly suited to their crops: good breeze, cool nights, and an abundance of water. A 1500 sqm greenhouse was constructed, and the Coopers expanded their line to include Lavender, Rosemary, Roses, Geranium, Euphorbia, Poinsettia, Kalanchoe, Calibrachoa and Hanging Baskets.
As Andrew likes to say, “… like our plants, our business just grew from there!”
Today, the wholesale nursery with humble beginnings is now over 3 acres of greenhouses all growing speciality flowering plants and trees. Forest Blooms is very conscious of the surrounding environment: they retain all runoff water to their own tailings dam. From there, the water travels through a reverse osmosis treatment plant and is recycled back through the nursery. Apart from their 4 starter beds, the nursery is watered by drip irrigation to minimise water usage. They use an organic, integrated pest management system to control various insects.
Many thousands of plants are propagated and produced by Forest Blooms each year and they are always on the look-out for new and exciting varieties to add to their existing plant nursery.
